Job summary

AUI Power in Elkton, MD seeks an Overhead Foreman to oversee the daily operations of the line crew, ensuring safety and quality in overhead electrical installations. You will lead safety briefings and manage documentation while adhering to company standards.

The ideal candidate must be a Journeyman Lineman with a CDL Class A, capable of lifting heavy equipment and mentoring team members.

Job description

Overhead Foreman – Elkton, MD

Elkton, MD

Primary Role

The Overhead Distribution Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the placement of overhead electrical wires and equipment to meet customer needs, ensuring crew safety, logging employee hours, completing daily safety briefings/inspections and other leadership tasks. This position oversees the Line crew and will supervise and assist with the day-to-day activities of the line crew and the project to which they are assigned and reports directly to the General Foreman and Project Manager.

Essential Functions
  • Provide supervision of crews
  • Comply with company/customer safety standards and expectations
  • Read job prints and other related instructions pertaining to the job
  • Maintain proper records pertaining to the work such as timesheets and material records
  • Responsible for daily briefing the crew on work tasks and the hazards associated with the job
  • Direct the crew members on specific job tasks
  • Responsible for mentoring and the development of the line crew members
  • Confer with customers, property owners, public, other contractors and representatives of utilities and governmental agencies
  • Meet with General Foreman, Utility coordinator, Safety Representatives, and others
  • Setting safety standards and expectations for the crew
  • Ensure quality job briefings are conducted
  • Experience in the installation and maintenance of various types of distribution and transmission lines ranging in voltages from 4kV to 500kV including wood poles, H-frames, steel poles, lattice structures, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards and best practices. Innovative with mean and methods
Minimum Requirements
  • Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to visualize the job build
  • Must be able to identify the hazards on the job
  • Must have cognition to solve problems
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, pass a background check and drug screen
  • Must be able to drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles, etc.
  • Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight (8) or ten (10) hour day according to the schedule. Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of heavy equipment. Implementing and enforcing the safety program at the field level
  • Must have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools and assist other line crew members
  • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
  • Able to lift in excess of 100 lbs
  • Must be a Journeyman Lineman
  • Possess a CDL class A driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to lift to 100lbs
  • Must be a Journeyman Lineman
