Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Texas is seeking a skilled machinist for a 2nd shift, onsite role. You will set up and operate machine tools, reading engineering drawings and instructions to produce precision parts with quality standards.

The job requires 3+ years on manual machines and 2 years with CNC milling, plus an A&P license and strong measurement skills. A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree is a plus. Onsite five days a week.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine tools per docs and fixtures.
• Perform complete and independent setup of various machine tools and perform operations from drawings and instructions to determine sequence, dimensions and tolerances.
• Make machine adjustments for efficient machining operations.
• Use precision measuring instruments, machines and gauges to check work for conformance to specifications.
• Pre-set and/or sharpen cutting tools as required.
• Recognize improper machine functions and take corrective action.
• Replenish coolant and maintain machine tools.

Responsible for machining parts to engineering provided documentation and ensuring the best quality is achieved and be able to operate various machines that are located in the department. Provide support to different departments throughout the facility.

This is a 2nd shift position

Salary Range:

$65,454.00 - $81,818.00

_ What you will do: _

• Set up and operate any machine tool to perform any operation within its capacity where special fixtures and holding devices are furnished or not required.

• Perform complete and independent setup of various machine tools and perform any operation within the machine’s capacity, working from O.I.S., prints, tapes sketches, oral and written instructions to determine the sequence of operations to be performed, dimensions and tolerances to be held, tools to use, method of locating, aligning and holding work and feeds and speeds.

• Make machine adjustments for efficient machining operations.

• Use precision measuring instruments, machines and gauges to check own work for conformance to specifications.

• As required, pre-set and/or sharpen cutting tools.

• Recognize improper machine functions and take corrective action and provide information to resolve discrepancies.

• Replenish coolant, change accessible filters and lubricate own machine tool as required. Check and report damage.
