Job summary

Hunter Communications is seeking an Outside Plant Project Manager to lead construction and deployment projects in Oregon. The role includes ownership of planning, budgeting, execution, and close-out of telecommunications projects while collaborating with engineering, permitting, and construction teams.

Responsibilities include managing multi-phase projects, maintaining documentation, coordinating with internal and external teams, and ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of fiber optic construction project management experience.
  • Experience meeting project deadlines and managing large-scale FTTH projects.
  • Knowledge of outside plant architectures, including aerial, underground, and building applications.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Jira, Smartsheet, or Monday.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass an MVR check.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to company driving policies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and communication abilities.
  • Self-directed with strong priority management and time-management skills.
  • Financial management skills, including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety standards for telecommunications projects.
  • Technical documentation analysis skills (land surveys, construction plans, splicing schematics, as-built drawings).
  • Advanced digital literacy, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Earth, and GIS platforms.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to new technologies.

  • Oversee all phases of multiple telecommunications projects from inception through completion, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
  • Develop detailed project plans, monitor financials, update internal tracking systems, and provide regular progress and budget updates.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and distribute close-out materials promptly.
  • Facilitate seamless project execution by coordinating with internal and external teams.
  • Act as primary liaison for all stakeholders, maintaining effective communications.
  • Lead meetings to discuss status, address issues, and adjust plans to meet timelines and budgets.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to timelines, budgets, and quality; collaborate on solutions and adapt to unforeseen obstacles.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee contractual compliance and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Implement quality control processes to guarantee deliverables meet required standards.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and adopt new technologies and methodologies as needed.

Job description

Hunter Communications is expanding its fiber internet service and is seeking an Outside Plant Project Manager to lead construction and deployment projects. The role includes ownership of planning, budgeting, execution, and close‑out of telecommunications projects while collaborating with engineering, permitting, and construction teams.

Location

Positions are available in Eugene and Central Point, Oregon. Remote applicants are considered only if they reside in Oregon, California, Tennessee, Georgia, New York, Maryland, Washington, Colorado, Montana, Illinois, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Michigan, or Texas.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3–5 years or more of fiber optic inside and outside plant construction project management experience.
  • Experience managing outside plant fiber construction on Tribal lands.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with advanced outside plant project management platforms such as Vitruvi, Sitetracker, GeoIQ.
Working Conditions
  • Work is primarily conducted indoors in a climate‑controlled office.
  • Occasional outdoor work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness, and smoke.
  • Occasional use of PPE (high‑visibility vest, hard hat, long pants, closed‑toed shoes) during field work.
  • Exposure to moderate to loud noise from traffic and equipment.
  • Proximity to moving vehicles, construction equipment, and pedestrians.
  • Potential work during low‑light times of day.
Physical Requirements
  • Reading, interpreting, and analyzing drawings, diagrams, and maps.
  • Working in an indoor office environment.
  • Communicating verbally and in writing with stakeholders.
  • Using a computer for project documentation.
  • Participating in in‑person meetings and site visits, requiring walking on various outdoor terrains in all weather conditions.
