Located in the heart of Oakland, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children is a one-of-a-kind educational experience committed to empowering our students to realize their full potential. The School also provides vital early intervention and outreach services to visually impaired students, with or without additional challenges, throughout western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1887, our School is best equipped to care for and educate students with visual impairments. As a private institution chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the School educates approximately 200 enrolled students from 80-85 school districts within western Pennsylvania.

Position Summary

The Outreach Supervisor provides leadership, supervision, and support to Outreach Teachers serving students with visual impairments across multiple school-based settings. This role ensures high-quality instructional services, compliance with state and federal regulations, and collaboration with families, school teams, and community agencies. The Supervisor fosters professional growth of staff, oversees program delivery, and ensures that students with visual impairments receive appropriate support to access the general curriculum and achieve individualized education program (IEP) goals.

FLSA Status: Exempt

207 days per year

Salary: $70,000-$85,000 based on degree, certifications, and experience

Responsibilities
  • Oversee Outreach team's caseload assignments, caseload management, and teacher scheduling.
  • Mentor Outreach Program teachers through classroom observations, provide instructional feedback, and assist in creating and implementing IEP-driven instruction.
  • Support teachers with scheduling, lesson planning, and problem-solving.
  • Conduct IEP and Functional Visual Evaluation reviews and provide targeted compliance feedback to Outreach Program teachers.
  • Facilitate teacher meetings with the Outreach Program.
  • Oversee the Outreach Program Assistive Technology Lending Library and teacher resource library.
  • Work to expand additional Outreach programs, including but not limited to Expanded Core Together Program, Little Visionaries, Braille Challenge, Abacus Bee.
  • Coordinate Outreach mentor program in conjunction with on-campus mentor program.
  • Collaborate with communications team to showcase and publicize the work of Outreach students through social media and other outlets.
  • Serve on the WPSBC Safety Committee as an Outreach representative.
  • Facilitate communication with school districts.
  • Manage Outreach services contracts with school districts and intermediate units.
  • Maintain communication with the Outreach Program Braille transcriptionist.
Qualifications
  • PDE Special Education Supervision certification or intent to obtain.
  • Valid PDE certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired required.
  • Master's Degree in Special Education required.
  • Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification (ACVREP) preferred.
  • Experience teaching students with visual impairments required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • The individual must hold and maintain proper clearances for Acts 34, 114, and 151.
