Job summary

Kenton County Public Library in Covington, KY is seeking an Outreach Youth Programmer to connect with K-12 students and families, delivering library resources through flexible and innovative programming.

You will promote literacy, visit schools, and build partnerships that expand access to library services while supporting classroom collaborations and community events.

Qualifications

• Education and/or experience in Primary Education preferred.
• KDLA certification (or ability to obtain) at the level required for this position.
• Demonstrated customer-service experience, patience under pressure, and comfort interacting with a wide range of patrons.
• Work at other KCPL locations required.
• Valid driver’s license and means of transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
• Must drive and park a 28-foot RV truck and other Library vehicles.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 30 lbs. and carrying 10 ft in distance, pushing or pulling up to 100 lbs., and occasional reaching, bending, and kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Visit community partners to connect patrons with library resources and experiences.
• Provide school visits, book talks, classroom support, and curriculum-connected programming.
• Promote Outreach Services and KCPL through library cards, digital resources, and literacy initiatives.
• Coordinate classroom collections, educator requests, and rotating deposits for schools.
• Support school and community events, including literacy nights, resource fairs, and family engagement activities.
• Track and report service outcomes and community impact to guide programming improvements.
• Collaborates with KCPL staff on system-wide and team projects.
• Performs other job-related tasks to support Library operations.

Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), with a schedule that may include any day of the week, including days, evenings, weekends, and the holidays the Library is open.

What You’ll Do

• Visit community partners such as public, private, and homeschool educators and administrators to connect patrons with library resources and experiences.
• Provide school visits, book talks, classroom support, and curriculum-connected programming.
• Promote both Outreach Services and KCPL as a whole through the promotion of library cards, digital resources, literacy initiatives, and student access to library services.
• Coordinate classroom collections, educator requests, and rotating deposits for schools.
• Support school and community events, including literacy nights, resource fairs, and family engagement activities.
• Track and report service outcomes and community impact, assessing the needs of the community to allow for improvement in programming, collections, and services.
• Collaborates with staff throughout KCPL for system-wide and team projects
• Performs other job-related tasks as needed to support Library operations.
