Position Highlights The University of Arizona’s Steward Observatory invites you to apply for a role on the Mt. Lemmon Sky School education team. The position entails creating, conducting, presenting, and supervising educational activities for large groups of adults and K‑12 students. You will implement safety protocols at the high‑altitude Mt. Lemmon site and throughout accompanying programs, mentor student participants, and engage with themes spanning ecology, geology, hydrology, environmental science, dendrochronology, soil science, astronomy, and cultural history.

Steward Observatory, founded in 1918, is one of the University’s oldest research units. It supports advanced facilities, laboratories, and observatories, providing a collaborative environment where technical expertise advances ground‑ and space‑based astronomy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, conduct, and supervise daily operations with the Mt. Lemmon Sky School education team.
  • Operate at the summit of Mount Lemmon (~9170 ft.) and other locations in Tucson’s valley.
  • Work safely outdoors at varied elevations and under typical climatic conditions.
  • Create, deliver, and supervise Sky School educational activities to promote learning in an engaging setting.
  • Maintain health and safety of all participants and advise the Outreach Education Manager as needed.
  • Handle daily logistical functions, including driving, setup, cleanup, and organization.
  • Respond promptly to the physical and mental needs of participants.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Current or willingness to obtain certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid with the Red Cross or equivalent group within 3 months of start date.
