Job description

The Outreach Director exists to help CityHope Church take the hope of Jesus beyond the walls of the church and into our local communities.

This role provides vision, leadership, organization, and execution for CityHope’s local outreach efforts by creating meaningful opportunities for people to serve, developing strong relationships with community partners, and mobilizing the church to meet practical needs while pointing people toward Jesus.

The goal is not simply to organize outreach events, but to develop a culture where serving our community becomes part of who we are as a church.

Reports To: Missions Pastor
Primary Responsibilities
1. Lead CityHope's Local Outreach Strategy

Develop and oversee a clear strategy for how CityHope engages and serves our surrounding communities.

This includes:

  • Identifying meaningful needs within the community
  • Developing outreach opportunities that align with CityHope's mission and values
  • Creating both churchwide and smaller ongoing opportunities to serve
  • Helping each CityHope campus maintain a consistent presence within its surrounding community
  • Evaluating existing outreach efforts and identifying opportunities for growth
2. Build Community Partnerships

Develop strong, healthy relationships with organizations and leaders already serving our communities.

  • Schools
  • First responders
  • Foster care organizations

  • Pregnancy resource centers
  • Local nonprofits
  • Government and community organizations
  • Churches and ministry partners
3. Maintain and Grow Adopted Communities

Provide ongoing leadership for CityHope’s Adopted Communities by ensuring these relationships remain active, healthy, and intentional.

This includes:

  • Maintaining consistent communication with leaders and partners in each Adopted Community
  • Identifying practical and relational needs within those communities
  • Developing regular opportunities for CityHope teams to serve
  • Building long term relationships rather than relying only on one time events
  • Recruiting and developing leaders who can take ownership of specific Adopted Communities
  • Evaluating the health and effectiveness of each partnership
  • Identifying new communities where CityHope can build a meaningful long term presence

  • Providing clear expectations and instructions for outreach teams
  • Helping families, groups, students, and individuals find appropriate ways to serve
5. Develop Outreach Leaders

Identify and empower people within CityHope who have a heart for specific areas of ministry.

Rather than personally leading every outreach initiative, the Outreach Director should develop leaders who can take ownership of ministries, partnerships, and Adopted Communities.

This includes:

  • Identifying potential leaders
  • Training and equipping them
  • Giving them meaningful responsibility
  • Providing ongoing encouragement and accountability
  • Developing systems that allow ministries to continue growing without depending entirely on staff leadership
6. Lead Strategic Outreach Events

Coordinate major opportunities throughout the year where CityHope can visibly and practically serve the community.

These may include:

  • Serve days
  • School partnerships
  • Holiday outreach
  • Community events
  • Disaster response
  • First responder appreciation
  • Food distributions
  • Foster family support
  • Neighborhood projects
  • Special community needs

Each event should have a clear purpose, strong organization, and a pathway toward ongoing relationships whenever possible.

Regularly communicate what God is doing through outreach.

This includes:

  • Gathering stories
  • Celebrating volunteers
  • Sharing ministry wins
  • Providing stories for weekend services and social media
  • Keeping staff informed about community needs and opportunities
  • Helping maintain outreach visibility throughout the year

Manage designated outreach resources with wisdom, accountability, and intentionality.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing an annual outreach budget
  • Tracking spending
  • Evaluating financial requests
