Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Abilene is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic milieu. You will perform patient‑care tasks within the MHT training scope and help ensure safety and high standards of care for adolescents, adults and seniors with anxiety, depression and related conditions.

Core duties include vital signs, ADL assistance, documentation, and de‑escalation techniques, while adhering to Joint Commission and Oceans policies.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written instruction.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must work well with diverse populations.
• Must utilize Age, Disability and Cultural Specific knowledge in working with specialized populations to best communicate with those clients.
• Must be in good physical and mental health with a warm empathetic attitude and integrity.
• Must work under close supervision.
• CPR certification and Oceans approved de‑escalation program required.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to professional standards and follow policies while meeting Joint Commission standards.
• Apply de‑escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed to manage patient behavior.
• Inventory patient belongings and secure contraband; perform unit safety checks.
• Comply with infection control policies and required in‑services.
• Perform vital signs, ADL, intake/output, nutritional monitoring and report findings to the nurse.
• Assist patients with laundry, meals, activities of daily living and mobility needs.
• Individualize all patient care activities to age, disability and cultural needs.
• Document patient observations and departures from the unit accurately and timely.
• Communicate task outcomes and follow‑ups to nursing staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
