Job summary

Pinellas County Government is seeking a Stormwater Maintenance Apprentice to perform outdoor, hands-on maintenance of ditches, pipes, and stormwater structures. You will inspect infrastructure, operate equipment, and support safe, efficient stormwater systems while responding to emergencies and standing by as needed.

Responsibilities include ditch cleaning, pipe repair, traffic control, and recordkeeping. Candidates should be able to work in all weather, climb, lift, and work in confined spaces;

Qualifications

• Completion of the ninth grade or equivalent.
• 6 months laborer, groundskeeping, or field trades related work.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with labor tasks: ditch cleaning, stormwater pipe repair and installation, inspection of pipes, structures and ditches.
• Perform work in confined spaces (manholes).
• Control traffic movement through construction projects using signals.
• Perform recordkeeping duties as required.
• Operate mechanical and light construction equipment including pumps, compressors and generators.
• Maintenance work such as underdrain repair, stormwater pipe repair, and asphalt patching.
