Job summary

NOVA Parks seeks Camp Counselors to supervise and guide daily camp activities for a range of ages, ensuring safety and fun through outdoor education. You will assist in planning and implementing programs, and help manage campers in a dynamic park setting.

The role emphasizes building positive relationships, teamwork, and effective communication with staff and participants, with training in first aid and CPR encouraged.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• At least 6 months experience with children in a structured setting or programs.
• At least one year of college education in some natural resource field, parks and recreation, or education field (or equivalent training and experience) preferred.
• Ability to work in the outdoors and inclement weather conditions for long periods of time.
• Ability to participate in physical activities that may include hiking, water activities, gardening, games.
• Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED training.
• Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, campers, and work as a team.
• Ability and desire to learn skills and information related to job.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and presents programs, crafts, games, and other outdoor educational activities.
• Interprets and works with facility features such as animals, gardens, water features, trails, etc.
• Provides a safe and fun learning environment for campers.
• Provides basic first aid as needed.
• Works as a counselor and co-leader of Summer Day Camps for rising kindergarteners through 10th graders.
• Assists with preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and organization of camp areas and supplies.
• Performs other park duties as assigned.
