Job summary

Fresh Express in Columbia, SC is seeking an OTR Driver to operate tractor-trailer combos or large trucks for long-haul routes. The role requires a current CDL A and at least 2 years of over-the-road experience, with duties including inspecting vehicles, loading/unloading, and maintaining logs.

You will secure cargo, document weights at weigh stations, and ensure compliance with state regulations while communicating with loading crews and dispatch.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
• Must be physically able to climb in/out of the truck driver compartment.
• Must be physically able to connect/disconnect trailer to/from truck tractor by backing under trailer king-pin and raising/lowering landing gear with the hand crank.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions and follow loading crew signals.
• Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources and verify routes.
• Maintain logs of working hours or vehicle service status in accordance with regulations.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
• Secure cargo for transport using ropes, straps, or covers.
• Drive trucks to weigh stations and document weights to comply with state regulations.
• Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons to transport and deliver products.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods when required.
• Inventory and inspect goods to determine quantities and conditions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The OTR Driver will drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). The driver may be required to unload truck utilizing manual and/or electric pallet jacks. Position requires a current commercial drivers' license.

Job Responsibilities

• Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Must be physically able to climb in/out of the truck driver compartment.
• Must be physically able to connect/disconnect trailer to/from truck tractor by backing truck under trailer king-pin and raising/lowering the trailer landing gear with the hand crank.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
• Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
• Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
• Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
• Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations.
• Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods when required.
• Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
