Job summary

Telecon in Tacoma, WA is hiring an OSP Inspector to oversee civil underground and outside plant construction from pre-construction through closeout. The ideal candidate has a Civil/Electrical/Architectural engineering background with 1–3 years of field telecom experience, strong communication, and the ability to read construction drawings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering/Technology preferred.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications, utility, or civil underground construction environments.
  • Working knowledge of NESC guidelines, OSP construction standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings and translate them into field execution.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work nights/weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline coordination and oversight for civil underground and OSP construction projects.
  • Support projects from pre-construction planning through final closeout.
  • Participate in job walks, pre-construction meetings, and site coordination meetings.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications for constructability and compliance.
  • Coordinate daily field activities with subcontractors and construction crews.
  • Monitor construction progress, workmanship quality, and material compliance.
  • Track and report subcontractor production quantities.
  • Identify and report discrepancies in construction methods, materials, or scope.
  • Assist Project Managers with resolving field-related issues.
  • Support preparation of change orders and out-of-scope/overage requests.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, client standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports and construction documentation.
  • Communicate with agencies on planned or overlapping projects.

Telecon is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to take on the role of OSP Inspector. This position supports civil underground and outside plant (OSP) construction projects from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with client, municipal, and regulatory standards. The Outside Plant Engineer plays a key role in coordinating field construction activities, supporting subcontractors and crews, and collaborating closely with Project Managers to ensure successful project delivery. You will serve as a frontline resource in the field, helping to resolve issues, maintain quality standards, and ensure construction aligns with approved designs and specifications.

Pay Range: $33.00-$38.00 per hour

You Will Have The Opportunity To

  • Represent Telecon professionally when interacting with clients, inspectors, and stakeholders
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering/Technology preferred
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications, utility, or civil underground construction environments
  • Working knowledge of NESC guidelines, OSP construction standards, and permitting requirements
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings and translate them into field execution
  • Comfortable working in active construction zones, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple moving pieces in a fast-paced field setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation
  • Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and internal teams
  • Self-directed and dependable, with the ability to make sound field decisions without constant supervision
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to project sites as required
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, depending on construction schedules
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical jobsite-related tasks
