Job description

Looking for a role with plenty of growth opportunities?

Join a regional fiber operator expanding its outside plant network across Wisconsin and building out its internal engineering capability to support continued growth. The organization is investing in its own design function, giving engineers the opportunity to play a key role in shaping how the network is designed, documented, and delivered.

This opportunity is ideal for a Fibre Design Engineer looking for genuine end-to-end ownership across the full design lifecycle. The role involves taking routes from initial planning through field validation, construction-ready drawings, and as-built documentation, with the opportunity to influence engineering standards and processes as the team grows. With a funded, multi-year build program, this role offers long-term stability and clear progression opportunities within a growing network operator.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce FTTH and outside plant designs across aerial and underground construction, from high-level route planning through to construction-ready drawings
  • Build and maintain accurate network records, including as-built documentation following construction completion
  • Conduct field walk-outs and route surveys to validate desktop designs and identify constructability issues early
  • Prepare material lists, splice schematics, and fiber assignments to support construction and splicing crews
  • Support pole application and make-ready packages, coordinating with utility owners and permitting authorities
  • Work alongside construction and project management teams to resolve field conflicts and design changes
  • Maintain design standards and drawing quality across the program
Skills/Must Have:
  • Experience in outside plant fiber design, ideally FTTH, in either an operator, engineering firm, or contractor environment
  • Working knowledge of aerial and underground construction methods, including make-ready, HDD, and boring
  • Proficiency in GIS-based design and documentation tools, ArcGIS, Vetro, AutoCAD, or comparable platforms
  • Understanding of fiber network architecture: distribution, splitters, cabinets, splice points, and fiber management
  • Ability to read and interpret utility records, plats, and right-of-way documentation
  • Comfortable in the field as well as at a desk, willingness to travel within Wisconsin as needed
  • Strong GIS fundamentals will be considered even where fiber-specific experience is lighter
Salary:
  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
