Job Description

The Construction Manager will serve as a key leader responsible for the successful execution of OSP, underground, and utility construction projects from planning through completion. This hands‑on leadership role combines field operations management with team development, safety oversight, and project controls. You’ll lead crews in the field, ensure adherence to quality and safety standards, and build strong relationships with customers, vendors, and internal teams.

In this role, you’ll be the primary point of accountability for daily construction activities, resource allocation, and project performance. You’ll work closely with field crews to solve problems in real time, mentor team members toward their professional goals, and ensure every project is delivered on time, on budget, and to specification. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA and company safety standards across all job sites and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop field crews with clear expectations, regular feedback, and accountability for performance.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day construction activities to ensure productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Plan and manage build schedules, job sequencing, and execution strategies to meet project milestones.
  • Ensure crews have proper tools, equipment, labor, and materials for safe and efficient job completion.
  • Track and report project progress through daily logs, percent complete tracking, and labor‑to‑budget metrics.
  • Maintain accurate records in Site Tracker and manage change orders, redlines, as‑builts, and progress billing.
  • Conduct site surveys and assist in estimates, quality assurance reviews, and proposal development.
  • Communicate job status professionally with customers, project managers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Model company core values and contribute to a learning culture by mentoring others and supporting team development.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Operations, HR, Safety, and Finance teams to support project execution.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor safety practices, identify risks, and ensure compliance with contract terms.

Required Experience/Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in OSP (outside plant) construction.
  • 3+ years of experience in a construction management or supervisory role.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience managing and developing field teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of telecom/OSP construction practices, methods, and industry standards.
  • Skilled in contract oversight, change order management, and unit pricing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and produce accurate as‑built documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction tracking software (Site Tracker or similar).
  • Strong time management, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Effective in crisis/conflict resolution and performance management.
  • Hands‑on First Aid & CPR certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability for company vehicle use.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Nice‑to‑Haves

  • Experience with underground utility construction and municipal projects.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic installation and telecom network design.
  • Previous experience working with utility locating and permitting processes.
  • Background in mentor‑based training and crew development programs.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
