Receive 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials.

Minimum Offer: $40.04/hr.

Maximum Offer: $56.28/hr.

Department: CTH Orthotics. FTE: 0.05. PRN. Shift: Days.

Position Summary

Evaluate patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Fabricate, fit, and deliver orthoses which best meet the medical and functional needs of each patient. May supervise the custom fabrication of orthoses and monitor technical activities within the department; supervise orthotic technicians as assigned. Participate in quality improvement processes and participate in departmental training as requested. Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • OVERSEE - Provide technical oversight and assignment, supervision, and review of work performed by team members
  • CASTS - Fabricate and finish plastic and/or metal prosthetics/orthotics for upper extremity, lower extremity, and spinal orthoses
  • CASTS - Measure and cast patients; consult with attending physician(s) as required
  • ORTHOTICS - Delineate tracings; choose appropriate orthotic components to fabricate specific orthosis; develop custom orthotic devices as required
  • ORTHOTICS - Evaluate and inspect the fit and function of orthoses fit and/or fabricated by technicians
  • CHARTS - Maintain patient charts and other documentation as required in accordance with Hospital and departmental procedures and standards
  • DEVICES - Inspect devices manufactured by internal/external sources to ensure adherence to specifications and quality requirements, and provide feedback to external suppliers
  • DEVICES - Report discrepancies to supervisor; make corrections to devices when feasible or as directed
  • ORTHOTICS OUTREACH - Organize outreach clinics for the team; provide orthotic services to outreach patient population
  • X-RAYS - Read x-rays to determine required specifications for orthoses
  • COST CONTROL - Utilize parts and supplies in a manner that maximizes efficient and cost-effective production of prosthetic/orthotic devices
  • TRAIN - Conduct in-services for staff as requested; train orthotic technicians in areas such as fabrication techniques, patient fittings, related practices, and special projects
  • EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote workplace safety
  • ON-CALL - Remain on call on a stand-by basis to ensure daily coverage from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or as assigned for Carrie Tingley and UNM Hospitals
  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Physical Conditions

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
