Job description

Position Summary

We at the Department of Ophthalmology at Boston Children’s Hospital provide the most advanced care for children with vision problems, from the simplest to the most complex conditions like cataracts, eye injuries, and juvenile glaucoma. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye exams: Perform detailed eye examinations upon physician referral, verify referral appropriateness, and use specialized tests (e.g., visual acuity, field, color vision, fundus photography) to diagnose and recommend treatment options.
• Administer non‑medical treatments: Develop and implement non‑surgical treatment plans for ocular disorders as prescribed by ophthalmologists, including therapeutic devices and interventions.
• Monitor and adjust treatment plans: Design individualized treatment programs, monitor outcomes, and adjust or discontinue treatments as needed, while communicating with physicians and care teams.
• Provide patient and family education: Build professional relationships with patients and families, explain procedures and results, and incorporate their needs into care plans.
• Collaborate and document care: Work with multidisciplinary teams, maintain detailed medical records, prepare reports for stakeholders, and ensure follow‑up care.
• Support education and research: Contribute to residency training, participate in quality improvement and research initiatives, and engage in professional development and scholarly activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.

Licensure / Certifications

Current certification as an Orthoptist by the American Orthoptic Council (AOC) or an equivalent level of certification from an accredited foreign program.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job‑related factors.
