Job description

The Opportunity

This orthopedic trauma position offers the case volume, infrastructure, and surgical autonomy that fellowship-trained trauma surgeons spend years looking for. The host facility is a 465-bed multi-specialty hospital with 15 operating rooms and a dedicated trauma OR each day. Designations include STEMI Center, Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and ECMO capability — meaning poly-traumas come in stable to a full multidisciplinary response, with ICU, cardiac, and neurosurgical support already on the team.

You will join an established orthopedic group with consistent high case volume that keeps surgical skills sharp without the call burden that burns trauma surgeons out of academic centers. Call coverage is optional based on hospital needs — meaning you can build the practice you want, with as much or as little call as fits your career stage. On-site imaging, physical therapy, and full subspecialty support round out the resources.

The Location

Modesto sits in California's Central Valley with the geography most coastal physicians envy: 89 miles to San Francisco, 75 miles to Sacramento, and the gateway towns to Yosemite less than two hours east. The region offers Bay Area access without Bay Area cost-of-living — housing runs well below coastal markets, and median home prices are within reach for a surgeon household. Year-round sunshine, world-class wine country thirty minutes away in Lodi and Calaveras County, ski access at Lake Tahoe within four hours.

For families, school options span a strong public system, several well-regarded private schools, and California State University Stanislaus a short drive south. Modesto Junior College anchors the community college tier. The downtown Tenth Street District has been quietly revitalized with a working art-house theater, independent restaurants, and a small-city feel where you actually know your neighbors.
