Job summary

Elliot Health System's Orthopaedics Department seeks an Orthopedic Technologist to join a dedicated care team in Stratham, NH, with training coverage for Hooksett and Manchester locations. The role supports surgeons and clinicians in applying, adjusting, and removing orthopedic devices, while educating patients and families.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, formal orthopedic training, and prefers NBCOT/ASOP certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a formal Orthopedic training program or equivalent certified within 3 months.
  • Previous clinical experience preferred.
  • National Board Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT) or ASOP registration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct/indirect orthopedic care to patients by applying, adjusting, maintaining, and removing orthopedic equipment under medical orders.
  • Instruct patients and families on utilization of orthopedic equipment and devices.
  • Assist medical staff in orthopaedic rooms, inpatient units, and operating room as needed.
  • Accept telephone orders from physicians within scope and Elliot Hospital policies; verbal orders only in emergencies.
  • Apply fracture braces on physician-written orders.
  • Support daily office functions including exam room turnover, data entry, appointment scheduling and insurance pre-certifications.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, office staff and administration to maintain a cooperative team approach to patient care.

*Primary Location is Stratham but expect to train/cover for low census Hooksett and Manchester Locations*

Position Summary: M - F 8 am - 5 pm

The Orthopedic Technologist is a trained member of the orthopedic team who works with all health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities concerning surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • In conformance with the medical staff’s written orders, provides direct and indirect individualized skilled technical orthopedic care to patients by applying, adjusting, maintaining, and removing specified orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
  • Instructs patients and their families regarding utilization of orthopaedic equipment, devices and appliances.
  • Directly assists medical staff in the orthopaedic room, inpatient units and/or operating room.
  • Accepts telephone orders from the appropriate physician within the scope of his/her responsibility and in adherence to Elliot Hospital policies and procedures. Accepts verbal order only in emergency situations.
  • Applies fracture braces on the written order of the physician.
  • Assists in daily functions of the office including but not limited to exam room turnover, data entry, appointment scheduling and insurance per-certifications.
  • Works effectively with the medical staff, office staff, and administration. Supports a team approach to patient care, working directly with patients and families and maintains a cooperative working relationship interdepartmentally.
Education/Experience/Licensure
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a formal Orthopedic training program required, or equivalent certification (ASOP) must be obtained within 3 months.
  • Experience: Previous clinical experience preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists or registered by the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals preferred.
