Job Summary
Performs a variety of complex technical procedures associated with orthopedics, including applying, adjusting, and removing casts and splints, to assist the Physician/Physician Assistant in the care and treatment of orthopedic patients, according to practice, routing, or established procedures. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationships with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.
The role requires knowledge and compliance with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice, ensuring patient safety in care procedures, including medication administration, infection prevention, and fall prevention. Reports safety hazards promptly.
Responsibilities include applying, adjusting, and removing casts, splints, and walking heels; reviewing physician orders; positioning affected areas; preparing and wrapping casting materials; consulting with physicians on complex cases; assisting with special orthopedic procedures; wound care; fitting and teaching gait training; documenting procedures; assisting and supporting patients and staff; and participating in educational and team activities.
Minimum experience required is 2-3 years as an orthopedic technician, with a high school diploma or GED, and an Orthopedic Technologist Certificate. Demonstrated ability to perform technical procedures and customer service skills are essential. Must be credentialed prior to performing duties at St. Joseph Hospital.
