Job summary

Southern New Hampshire Health seeks an Orthopedic Technologist to support orthopedic and sports medicine providers in treating bone and joint injuries. The role involves applying and removing casts, splints, and braces, educating patients on injury care, and ensuring proper use of orthopedic equipment.

You will assist with patient intake, discharge, and safe movement, while documenting interactions in the EMR and adhering to HIPAA and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Two years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician preferred.
  • Completion of a 2-year college or technical training program; certification preferred.

  • Educate on mobility aids and use of DME.
  • Assist with patient intake, discharge, and safe movement under supervision.

About the Job:

The Orthopedic Technologist supports orthopedic and sports medicine providers in the treatment of bone and joint injuries. This role focuses on applying and removing casts, splints, and braces; educating patients on injury care; and ensuring proper use and maintenance of orthopedic equipment. The technologist also assists with patient intake, discharge, and safe movement throughout the practice.

What You’ll Do:
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices
  • Educate patients and caregivers on injury care, cast care, and use of crutches, walkers, and other DME
  • Adjust and maintain traction equipment and orthopedic tools
  • Support orthopedic physicians, surgeons, and sports medicine providers during patient care
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, radiology, and other departments
  • Perform patient intake and discharge under provider supervision
  • Document patient interactions in the electronic medical record
  • Adhere to HIPAA, infection control, and safety guidelines
  • Stay current with organizational policies, EPIC workflows, and required trainings
Who You Are:
  • Knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Skilled in applying and removing orthopedic casts, splints, and braces
  • Comfortable educating patients and demonstrating mobility aids
  • Able to collaborate effectively with physicians and clinical staff
  • Organized, efficient, and capable of managing time and resources
  • Experienced with basic computer use and EMR systems
  • Preferred: Two years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician and familiarity with DME supplies
  • Education: Completion of a 2‑year college or technical training program
  • Certification: Certified or eligible for certification
