Orthopedic Surgery (Assistant Professor)

Division: Orthopedic Surgery

Location: Houston, TX

Salary Range: FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary

Department of Orthopedic Surgery is seeking a Podiatrist to provide excellent patient care and technical skills. Job Duties
  • Develop and implement plans to ensure comprehensive, timely, and high-quality patient care services with maximum operating efficiency.
  • Participate in College and Hospital community outreach activities to promote the Department, Division, BCM, and the medical center.
  • Ensure safe and effective care for patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency.
  • Support the Department, Baylor Medicine, and Hospital goals through active participation in committees, task forces, and other organizational initiatives that contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced faculty, staff, and learners.
Minimum Qualifications

Educational & Training Requirements

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree
  • 3-year Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency (PMSR)

Licensing & Certifications

  • Active, unrestricted State Professional License
  • Active DEA registration (for controlled substances)
  • CPR/BLS certification

Clinical Scope & Capabilities

  • Primary foot care (nail/callus/wart debridement)
  • Managing basic bio-mechanical issues and custom orthotics
  • Treating minor infections and skin conditions
Maximum Qualifications

Maximum Qualifications

  • Educational & Training Requirements
  • Standard DPM degree
  • 3-year PMSR with added Rearfoot Reconstructive/Ankle (RRA) surgery credentials
  • Advanced post-residency fellowship (e.g., sports medicine, diabetic limb salvage)

Licensing & Certifications

  • Board Certified by the ABFAS or ABPM
  • Active hospital admitting privileges
  • Extensive peer-reviewed surgical case logs

Clinical Scope & Capabilities

  • Complex rearfoot, ankle, and total joint reconstruction
  • Advanced wound care and surgical limb salvage
  • Managing a high-volume clinical and surgical caseload
