Job summary

South Shore Health System is seeking a part-time Orthopedic Physician Assistant to evaluate, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal patients under physician supervision. You will participate in ED, inpatient units, and operating room activities, and collaborate with the care team to optimize patient outcomes.

The role requires ACLS, PA licensure, and a Bachelor’s degree with completion of an advanced PA training program.

Qualifications

  • Minimum work experience in Acute Medicine and/or Orthopedic experience preferred.
  • PA license required.
  • ACLS required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and certification maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains a detailed and accurate medical history and performs a comprehensive physical exam for patients admitted for elective, non-elective and trauma orthopedic procedures.
  • Implements all Orthopedic Surgery care plans including writing orders, transfer orders, wound care, dressing changes, application of casts/splints, and fracture reductions.
  • Collaborates with hospitalist team on co-managed patients.
  • Discharge orders and planning, writes discharge summary and prescriptions.
  • Reviews radiology and laboratory results and plans care as directed by the attending physician.
  • Acts as first or second assist in the Operating Room as necessary.
  • Identifies and manages chronic medical conditions and provides continuous inpatient care.
  • Maintains safety and radiation protocol with fluoroscopic procedures; attends annual training.
