Job summary

Athens Orthopedic Clinic in Athens, GA is seeking a Central Sterile Processing Technician to join our ambulatory surgery center team. You will decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute instruments for orthopedic procedures, ensuring compliance with infection control standards and safe case turnover.

The role requires a high school diploma, CRCST certification (preferred or within timeframe), and prior sterile processing experience in an orthopedic or surgical setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage; replace defective items.
• Assemble instrument trays and sets for orthopedic procedures (e.g., joint replacements, arthroscopy).
• Operate sterilization equipment including steam autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and washer-disinfectors.
• Monitor and document sterilization processes, including indicators.
• Maintain records of sterilization loads and tracking systems.
• Ensure proper storage and distribution of sterile instruments and supplies.
• Maintain inventory levels of instruments, implants, and sterile supplies; report shortages.
• Adhere to OSHA, CDC, and facility infection prevention policies.
• Collaborate with surgical staff for case readiness and timely turnover of ORs.
• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of sterile processing equipment and work areas.
