Job summary

Howard County Public School System seeks a Special Education Teacher – Orientation and Mobility (HCPSS) to support students with visual impairments. The role emphasizes teaching proficient and safe travel, based on IEP/IFSP services, and requires collaboration with IFSP/IEP teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility from a regionally accredited program is preferred.
• Certification/License: Maryland MSDE certificate or license with an endorsement in Blind/Visually Impairment, or COMS/NOMC.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lessons to teach proficient and safe travel for students with visual impairments.
• Perform orientation and mobility assessments to inform IFSP/IEP goals.
• Develop IFSP/IEP goals and objectives based on assessments.
• Monitor and report progress to IFSP and IEP teams.
