Role Description

The Orientation & Mobility Specialist is a full-time hybrid role based in Sarasota, FL, with some work-from-home flexibility. This role is responsible for assessing the orientation and mobility needs of individuals with vision loss and developing personalized training plans to support safe, independent travel in home, community, and workplace environments. Daily tasks include providing one-on-one and small-group instruction in the use of mobility aids (such as white canes), teaching route planning, environmental awareness, and safety techniques, and documenting progress in accordance with organizational standards. The specialist collaborates closely with clients, families, and internal team members to coordinate services and ensure continuity of care. Additional responsibilities may include participating in community outreach, contributing to program development, and maintaining current knowledge of best practices in orientation and mobility.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Analytical Skills to assess client needs, evaluate safety considerations, and adjust mobility training plans effectively.
• Candidates should possess Communication and Customer Service skills to interact respectfully with clients, families, and colleagues, and to provide clear, supportive instruction.
• Candidates should possess knowledge of Global Mobility and Corporate Relocation processes when supporting clients who relocate or travel, and coordinating with external partners as needed.
• Relevant qualifications include certification or eligibility for certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (such as COMS), experience working with individuals with vision loss or other disabilities, and familiarity with assistive technology and mobility aids.
• Additional beneficial qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Orientation & Mobility or a related field, strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to inclusive, person-centered service delivery.
