Job description

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon - Partnership Opportunity in Coastal Southern Maine

Southern Maine Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (SMOMS) is seeking a full-time Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our 50-year legacy of surgical excellence in the greater Portland, Maine community

The Opportunity:

This is a full-time, four-day-per-week associate position with a strong pathway toward partnership for the right surgeon. We are proud to be a surgeon-owned practice.

SMOMS is a busy, broad-scope OMFS office looking for a motivated, personable, and clinically excellent surgeon. Hoping to build your long-term career? Join our thriving private practice, and enjoy the unparalleled lifestyle and community of coastal Southern Maine.

The position includes competitive compensation, benefits, malpractice coverage, continuing education support, and a partnership-track opportunity. Specific compensation structure can be discussed directly and will be designed to reward clinical productivity while supporting long-term professional growth.

This is not a traveling-surgeon or corporate production role. The right candidate will have room to develop their clinical interests, build relationships, and help shape the future of our practice.

The Candidate:

Candidates should be:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Eligible for dental and/or medical licensure in Maine, as applicable
  • Eligible for office-based anesthesia permitting
  • Clinically thoughtful, ethical, and patient-centered
  • Comfortable communicating with patients, families, referring doctors, and team members
  • Interested in contributing to a positive practice culture
  • Looking for a long-term professional home

You're a perfect fit if you're comfortable with the full range of office-based oral and maxillofacial surgery, including:

  • Third molars and dentoalveolar surgery
  • Dental implants and grafting
  • Office-based IV anesthesia
  • Pathology and biopsy procedures
  • Management of infections and urgent OMFS care

Additional interests such as orthognathic surgery, trauma, reconstruction, TMJ, or advanced implant procedures would be welcomed, though not required.

New graduates, current residents, fellows, and experienced surgeons are all encouraged to apply.

The Practice:

Southern Maine Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a respected, surgeon-owned private practice.

We are committed to excellent surgical outcomes, safe anesthesia care, and strong relationships with the dental and medical communities we serve.

We value clinical quality, fairness, professionalism, and a supportive team environment.

Our offices are modern, busy, and well-supported by experienced surgical assistants, administrative staff, and referral coordinators. The practice has the infrastructure, patient demand, and referral network to support a productive surgeon who wants both clinical autonomy and collegial mentorship. We offer a busy private-practice environment with a healthy mix of procedures.

While our surgeons enjoy clinical autonomy, no one practices in isolation. With mentorship, clinical collaboration, and experienced partners available for case discussion and operative assistance, we offer a collegial and supportive surgeon environment.

Relocating? You're in luck! Southern Maine offers the ideal place to build your career and balance your life, combining the professional opportunity of a busy regional OMFS practice and the lifestyle benefits of coastal New England. The greater Portland area has a booming food scene, excellent schools, vibrant coastal communities, outdoor recreation, (skiing, boating, hiking), and a strong sense of community.
