Job summary

Gold Coast Dental is seeking an experienced Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our growing practice in California. The surgeon will provide comprehensive surgical care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of conditions involving the teeth, jaws, mouth, and related structures.

This role emphasizes patient-centered care and collaboration with referring dentists, with a compensation structure of 44% of collections.

Qualifications

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school.
  • Completion of an accredited Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency program.
  • Current and unrestricted dental/surgical license in California.
  • Appropriate sedation permits and credentials as required.
  • CPR/BLS certification and additional certifications as applicable.
  • Experience with dental implants, complex extractions, bone grafting and related procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of oral and maxillofacial conditions.
  • Perform surgical procedures including simple and complex extractions, implants, bone grafting, and related surgeries.
  • Develop surgical treatment plans based on clinical findings and imaging.
  • Review X-rays, CBCT/3D imaging, and other diagnostics.
  • Provide sedation services appropriate to training and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain patient safety and post-operative care; manage complications and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with general dentists and specialists to coordinate care.
  • Ensure documentation, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support efficient scheduling and patient experience.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and patient-focused Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our growing dental organization. The Oral Surgeon will provide comprehensive surgical care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical management of conditions involving the teeth, jaws, mouth, and related oral and maxillofacial structures.

Compensation
  • 44% of collections
  • Compensation is based on a flat rate of 44% of applicable collections.
  • Additional details regarding compensation, scheduling, and expectations will be reviewed during the interview process.
Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of oral and maxillofacial conditions.
  • Perform surgical procedures including, but not limited to:
    • Simple and surgical extractions
    • Impacted and wisdom tooth extractions
    • Dental implant placement
    • Bone grafting and related regenerative procedures
    • Alveoloplasty
    • Biopsies and treatment of oral pathology
    • Exposure and bonding procedures
    • Pre-prosthetic surgery
    • Management of oral infections and surgical emergencies
    • Other procedures within the provider's training, credentials, and scope of practice
  • Evaluate patients referred by general dentists and other specialists.
  • Develop appropriate surgical treatment plans based on clinical findings, diagnostic imaging, and patient needs.
  • Review X-rays, CBCT/3D imaging, and other diagnostic information as appropriate.
  • Provide sedation services appropriate to the provider's training, credentials, licensure, and applicable regulations, including appropriate patient evaluation, monitoring, and post-sedation care.
  • Administer and manage sedation for appropriate surgical procedures in accordance with established clinical protocols and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate sedation monitoring, documentation, emergency preparedness, and patient safety standards.
  • Provide appropriate pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Manage surgical complications and provide appropriate follow-up care.
  • Provide emergency surgical care when clinically appropriate.
Patient Care & Experience
  • Provide compassionate, professional, and patient-centered surgical care.
  • Clearly explain diagnoses, treatment recommendations, procedures, risks, benefits, alternatives, sedation options, and expected outcomes.
  • Educate patients regarding treatment, sedation, and post-operative care.
  • Help patients feel comfortable and confident throughout the surgical experience.
  • Maintain excellent communication with patients, families, and referring providers.
  • Deliver a high standard of care while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
Collaboration & Referring Providers
  • Work closely with general dentists and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain strong relationships with referring dentists and dental teams.
  • Communicate treatment recommendations, surgical findings, and follow-up needs with referring providers.
  • Support appropriate internal referrals and collaborative case planning.
  • Participate in case discussions when complex treatment requires multidisciplinary coordination.
Clinical Standards & Compliance
  • Maintain the highest standards of surgical care, patient safety, sedation, and infection control.
  • Follow all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing oral and maxillofacial surgery and sedation.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy regulations.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and registrations.
  • Maintain appropriate malpractice coverage as required by the organization.
  • Stay current with advances in oral surgery techniques, sedation, technology, materials, and evidence-based practices.
Teamwork & Practice Support
  • Work collaboratively with dental assistants, hygienists, general dentists, specialists, and administrative teams.
  • Provide appropriate clinical direction to surgical assistants and support staff.
  • Promote a professional, respectful, and team-oriented clinical environment.
  • Help ensure surgical appointments are performed efficiently while maintaining quality and patient safety.
  • Support practice initiatives designed to improve specialty access, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.
  • Completion of an accredited Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency program.
  • Current and unrestricted dental/surgical license in the state of practice.
  • Appropriate controlled-substance registration, as applicable.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification and any additional certifications required for the position.
  • Appropriate sedation permits, certifications, and credentials required by the applicable state and regulatory authorities.
  • Appropriate credentials and experience for the surgical and sedation procedures being performed.
  • Strong clinical and surgical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong treatment-planning and diagnostic abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-provider dental environment.
  • Experience with dental implants, complex extractions, bone grafting, sedation, and other oral surgery procedures preferred.
Schedule & Availability
  • Weekend availability is required.
  • Holiday availability is required.
  • Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on patient demand and business needs.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is important to support specialty access and emergency patient needs.
