Job description

Role Summary

Specialized Bicycle Components runs its global finance, supply chain, and commerce operations on Oracle. This role owns that platform: its architecture, its security and compliance posture, the Oracle Cloud Services relationship, and the platform work underpinning the migration to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications. The position combines hands‑on engineering with platform ownership. The Principal Engineer remains technically engaged with Oracle 19c and EBS R12.x while setting OCI architecture standards, owning the SOX control environment, directing the Oracle Cloud Services team as a delivery program, and owning the platform work beneath the EBS‑to‑Fusion migration.

Responsibilities
Oracle Database and EBS Engineering

The Principal Engineer provides technical leadership for Oracle 19c and EBS R12.x across Production, Test, Development, and Disaster Recovery. The work spans highly available architecture built on RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, and ASM; backup, recovery, and business continuity strategy; and the planning and execution of patching, upgrades, cloning, refreshes, and performance tuning. The role establishes the runbooks and operational standards supporting 24x7 availability and leads root cause analysis to reduce recurring incidents. While not performing testing directly, the Principal Engineer is accountable for test coverage and execution ahead of patching and platform changes, and for communicating maintenance windows, change timing, and expected impact across the technology organization.

OCI Architecture, Security, and Compliance

This role owns OCI architecture to Oracle Well-Architected and landing‑zone standards, including compartment design, tenancy and IAM governance, network design, and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform. It also owns Oracle SOX IT General Controls: access reviews, segregation of duties, change management, and audit evidence for the annual internal audit review. Encryption and key management, data masking, vulnerability management, and cloud cost governance fall within the same scope.

The Oracle CSS Partnership

Oracle Cloud Services is managed here as a delivery program rather than a support queue. The Principal Engineer sets priorities, plans capacity, tracks milestones, and holds CSS accountable for SLAs, availability, and incident resolution. The role owns the statement of work and change requests, contributes to contract renewal discussions, and stewards Specialized's Oracle licensing posture.

The Fusion Migration

The migration from OCI-hosted EBS to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications is a multi-year program owned by the Global Enterprise Applications leader. While GEA owns the applications migrating, this role owns the systems and platform beneath them: target platform architecture, environment strategy, data migration, and coexistence between EBS and Fusion during the transition. The Principal Engineer partners with GEA and application leads to plan and execute each phase, and is accountable for the platform being ready, secure, and performing when it is.

Cross-Functional Partnership

This role works closely with the Global Enterprise Applications (GEA) team, partnering on demand intake, ticket triage, and execution for Oracle work, and coordinating on releases, environment availability, and application changes that cross the infrastructure and applications boundary. The Principal Engineer also participates in the Global Tech Prioritization process, providing technical assessment, effort estimation, and architectural input on proposed initiatives, and translating approved priorities into delivery plans for the Oracle platform. Regular collaboration with Finance, Supply Chain, Security, and Infrastructure teams rounds out the role's cross-functional scope.

Thought Leadership and Technology Innovation

The Principal Engineer defines and maintains the long-term architecture roadmap for Specialized's Oracle landscape, evaluates emerging capabilities including AI and advanced automation within Fusion, and brings forward proposals ahead of operational demand. The role serves as a technical advisor to Technology leadership and mentors engineers across the organization.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of Oracle Database Administration supporting mission‑critical enterprise applications, including 8+ years of hands‑on EBS R12.x administration.
  • Deep Oracle 19c expertise across RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, and performance tuning, with hands‑on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure experience.
  • Strong Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) platform administration experience, including VCN design, network segmentation, IAM governance, compartment strategy, console administration, and cloud security controls.
  • Strong Linux fundamentals on Oracle Linux or RHEL: shell scripting, SSH and sudo administration, OS performance tuning, and security hardening.
  • Demonstrated program leadership, including planning, dependency tracking, and stakeholder reporting, and experience directing a managed‑services vendor in a 24x7 production environment.
  • Working knowledge of SOX ITGC and audit controls, identity and access management, and cloud security practice.

Proven ability to communicate maintenance windows, change timing, and platform impact clearly across the technology organization and to business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications, particularly an EBS-to-Fusion migration, is the strongest differentiator for this role. Experience designing secure OCI landing zones and enterprise‑scale cloud governance models is highly valued, as is a disciplined approach to patch testing and regression validation ahead of production application. Terraform and infrastructure‑as‑code, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Exadata or ExaCS are also valued. WebLogic and SOA Suite are being retired from the environment; experience decommissioning them is more relevant than experience operating them.

Relevant certifications include OCI Architect Professional, Oracle Database Administration 2019 Certified Professional, Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud Specialist, and Oracle Cloud Applications implementation credentials. PMP, ITIL 4, or CISSP are also applicable. Certifications are weighed alongside demonstrated results, not in place of them.

Success Measures

Performance is measured on Oracle uptime, availability, and SLA compliance; CSS program delivery against committed dates and budget; SOX and ITGC audit results; execution of low‑risk upgrades, patching, and migrations; reduction in recurring incidents; and platform readiness against Fusion migration milestones.
