Job summary

Unisys is seeking a seasoned Database Administrator to design, install, configure, and maintain Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring security, integrity, and performance across production, test, and disaster-recovery environments.

You will optimize data feeds, support developers, and lead automation of routine tasks while mentoring junior staff. U.S. Citizenship and residency are required for this role and compliance with export-controls may apply.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and 6–8 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Deep expertise in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database design, administration, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior staff.
  • Familiarity with HA and DR solutions for Oracle and SQL Server including Oracle Data Guard, RAC, SQL Server Always On, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), replication, log shipping, and backup/recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Database Design & Administration Works with leadership to define, develop, and recommend database and related data management policies and procedures, building on responsibilities such as: Manages database backup / recovery and configures parameters and prototypes designed against logical data models.
  • Defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements.
  • Installs, configures, administers, patches, upgrades, and maintains Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database environments, including production, test, development, and disaster recovery systems.
  • Performance & Capacity Management Optimizes database access and allocates/re-allocates database resources for optimum configuration, performance, and cost.
  • Drives end-to-end availability, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • Supports multiple services and databases with diverse concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility of data.
  • Monitors and tunes Oracle and SQL Server database performance, including query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and capacity management to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Technical Leadership & Automation Acts as team/project lead on technical projects. Provides technical, process, and functional guidance to less experienced team members. Strategizes and owns the automation of administrative tasks. Automates database administration tasks through scripting, scheduling, monitoring, and maintenance processes to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Organizational Contribution Assists in driving organizational activities and initiatives.

Position Summary

The Database Administrator designs, installs, configures, and maintains Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database management systems, including definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and protection. This role optimizes the data environment by keeping databases finely tuned, automating incoming and outgoing data feeds, and troubleshooting data access problems. The Database Administrator establishes and maintains security and integrity controls, designs and builds relational databases, and supports software developers with database operations, working with data users to recommend appropriate solutions.

You will be successful in this role if you have:
  • BA/BS degree and 6–8 years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Deep expertise in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database design, administration, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior staff.
  • Required to have familiarity and knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments, including Oracle Data Guard, RAC, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), replication, log shipping, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Experience installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and administering Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 or later versions.
  • Experience with SQL Server security, database backup and recovery, maintenance plans, SQL Server Agent, monitoring tools, and database migration activities.
  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and troubleshooting database performance issues in both Oracle and SQL Server environments.
  • U.S. Citizenship and U.S. residency required.
  • This role may require access to export-controlled commodities and technology.
