Job summary

Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, ME, is seeking a full-time surgical scrub to join the operating room team. You will support the surgeon during procedures, prepare instruments, and help maintain sterile technique.

Responsibilities include inventory management, instrument passing, counts, and ensuring the OR is ready for the next case, with schedule from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. High School diploma and Surgical Technologist certification within one year are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Surgical Technologist program and certification within 1 year of hire required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift 20–30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeon as a surgical scrub during surgery and endoscopic cases.
  • Prepare and collect surgical supplies for procedures.
  • Maintain par levels of general and special-order supplies with Supply Chain.
  • Review inventory for expiration dates and restock as needed.
  • Maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
  • Arrange and pass instrumentation efficiently during surgery.
  • Track instrumentation, sponges, and sharps; complete counts per policy.
  • Ensure OR/Procedure Room is clean and ready for next case.
  • Assist with positioning patients as directed by RN Circulator.

Summary:

Functions as a surgical scrub during surgical and endoscopic cases. Works as a member of the surgical team in activities of patient care within scope of assigned duties and clinical expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Competently assists the surgeon as a surgical scrub during surgery and endoscopic cases. Able to perform all duties associated with this role.
  • Participates in preparing and collecting surgical supplies for surgery.
  • Maintains and orders par levels of general and special-order supplies in collaboration with Supply Chain. Helps to review supply inventory for expiration dates.
  • Uses and helps to maintain surgery preference cards to ensure all equipment and supplies are available.
  • Adheres to strict aseptic technique.
  • Arranges surgical instrumentation and equipment in an orderly fashion and able to maintain, operate, and pass instrumentation efficiently during surgery.
  • Accurately tracks surgical instrumentation, sponges, and sharps during surgery. Completes surgical counts according to policy.
  • Demonstrates competency in use of all surgical and endoscopic equipment.
  • Works with surgical team to clean, restock and prepare the OR/Procedure Room for the next case or terminal cleaning.
  • Cleans surgical instrumentation manually and with automatic washer when on call. Completes activities for cleaning and high-level disinfection of GI endoscopes.
  • Assists with positioning and moving patients as directed by the RN Circulator.

Education

  • Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)
  • Required Associate's Degree - Must have attended a Surgical Technologist program and must attain certification within one year of hire.
