Job summary

The incumbent is assigned to Nursing Service and serves as the Surgical Technician for the Operating Room (OR) and surgical clinics at the Central Texas VA Health Care System in Temple, Texas. The incumbent is supervised by the Nurse Manager, Perioperative Care and/or designee.

Qualifications

• Six months of generalized experience demonstrating ability to perform surgical technician duties.
• Education may substitute for experience at the GS-3 level (one year above high school in medical/health fields).
• GS-4 requires six months of generalized experience and six months of specialized experience in a medical/health setting.
• GS-5 requires one year of specialized experience or a 4-year degree with related coursework.

Responsibilities

• Scrub during operative procedures and assist perioperative team.
• Assist circulating nurse by positioning patients and preparing instrumentation.
• Maintain and clean instrumentation postoperatively and ensure aseptic conditions.
• Assist in ensuring patient safety and managing supplies during procedures.
