Job summary

Beebe Healthcare is seeking an Operating Room Surgical Technician to support surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures. You will prepare rooms, pass instruments, operate equipment, and help maintain a sterile, safe environment.

The role emphasizes teamwork, attention to sterile technique, and the ability to respond quickly to changing procedural needs while upholding patient confidentiality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of accredited surgical technology program preferred.
• Must possess one (1) year experience in hospital setting; prefer minimum of 1 year current operating room experience.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique.
• Ability to anticipate surgeon's needs and adapt to changing priorities during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures and ensure instruments and supplies are sterilized and organized.
• Assist surgical team by passing instruments and equipment during procedures, maintaining a sterile field.
• Set up and operate specialized surgical equipment following safety guidelines.
• Monitor aseptic technique and assist with patient positioning and prepping.
• Communicate effectively with team to ensure efficient workflow and timely procedures.
• Assist with post-operative tasks and wound care following approved protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of procedures, equipment usage, and patient care documentation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring that all equipment, instruments, and supplies are properly sterilized, organized, and available for use.
• Assist surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and maintaining a sterile field.
• Set up and operate specialized surgical equipment, including lights, suction devices, and diagnostic equipment, following manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
• Monitor and maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, including draping, gowning, and gloving, to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
• Assist with patient positioning and prepping, applying sterile drapes and securing equipment as directed by the surgical team.
• Anticipate and respond to emergency situations in the operating room, including providing additional supplies or assistance as needed.
• Collaborate with surgical team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of procedures, communicating effectively and respectfully with all team members.
• Assist with post-operative tasks, such as wound closure, dressing application, and transferring patients to recovery areas, following established protocols and guidelines.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, including maintaining accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient care documentation.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times, promoting a culture of safety and accountability in the operating room.

Qualifications

Credentials

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required.
• BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required, additional education or certification in sterile processing preferred
• Graduated from a Surgical Technology program
