The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and at least two years of experience in surgical instrument processing or as a surgical technologist, with CRCST/CST/CSPDT certification being acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Reviews the surgery schedule with the SPD Manager to ensure accurate case carts.
• Tracks case flow and alerts SPD personnel to instrument needs or delays.
• Communicates essential instrumentation information to the surgical team.
• Returns and restocks unused sterile instruments.
• Assembles instruments and trays per component lists and sterilization requirements.
• Inspects instruments for defects and tags for repair.
• Packages supplies using correct packing materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Essential Job Function:

• Reviews the surgery schedule, together with the SPD Manager, ensuring that all surgical procedures have an accurate case cart, and coordinates delivery /retrieval.


• Keeps track of case flow during the day, monitors instrument needs, and notifies SPD personnel in advance of any possible additional/emergent instrumentation needs.


• Communicates to the surgical team all essential instrumentation information that may affect or delay surgery start time.


• Returns and restocks all unused sterile instruments to their appropriate location.


• Assembles instruments and trays accurately and completely according to the component list and sterilization requirements.


• Inspects instruments for defective/broken parts, tagging for repair, and replacing on tray or set.


• Packages individual medical supplies and instruments using the correct or appropriate packing materials.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Required: 2 years of experience in surgical instrument processing or experience as a surgical technologist.

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

• Required: Certified Central Sterile Technician (CRCST), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), and/or Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) will be acceptable.
