Job summary

Cleveland Clinic is seeking an Operating Room (OR) Service Assistant on the Main Campus to support caregivers by transporting patients and preparing the OR. You'll gain hands-on experience with medical instruments, sterilization processes, and assisting in the sterile environment, while contributing to a world-class care team.

The role is full-time with a 7:00am to 5:30pm schedule, providing exposure to advanced procedures and a pathway for professional development within a leading healthcare

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred Sterile Processing Certification and experience in sterile processing.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients to and within the operating room.
• Set up the OR for caregivers and assist during procedures.
• Maintain sterile instrument sets and ensure proper sterilization.
• Provide limited assistance to surgeons (holding limbs, suctioning, sponging).
• Clean used instruments and manage instrument assembly for cleaning.
• Assist in transporting supplies and maintain OR storage areas.

This is a full‑time position. A caregiver in this role will work 7:00am to 5:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Maintain surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensure proper sterile conditions.
• Provide limited assistance to surgeons (e.g., holding limb/retractors, suctioning, sponging wounds).
• Clean used instruments after surgery (e.g., assembly and maintenance of some instruments for proper cleaning and sterilization).
• Ensure proper sterile conditions, order supplies and stocks and maintain storage areas in the Operating Room for service.
• Assist in transporting patients.
• Assist RN in maintaining a safe environment for the patient.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma/GED

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Sterile Processing Certification
• Two years of experience in sterile processing

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.50

Maximum hourly: $25.20
