Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines is seeking a Surgical Technician to join our Operating Room team. The role involves preparing the OR, instruments, equipment, and supplies and maintaining a sterile field during procedures, with scrubs across general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry and plastics.

Schedule is full-time, Day Shift with 6:45am start times and options for 8- and 10-hour shifts. We value teamwork, safety, and adherence to our mission and core values, with opportunities to pursue CST

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent.
• BLS certification required; CST preferred but not mandatory in Iowa.
• LPN background with surgical experience acceptable.
• No prior experience required for entry-level candidates.
• Ability to work under pressure, with diverse teams and high independence.
• Willingness to obtain CST certification within 18 months if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating room, instruments, equipment and supplies for procedures.
• Maintain sterile field and assist with scrubs across general surgery and other specialties.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Surgical Technician to join our Operating Room.

The Surgical Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room for the surgical procedure including the instruments, equipment, and supplies. They must maintain the sterile field during the surgical procedure. Will scrub more general cases which may include general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and plastics. May also be 2nd, 3rd or 4th scrub in all surgical specialties. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and cultural beliefs of MercyOne.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Shift: Days (6:45am - 3:15pm or 6:45am - 5:15pm)
8 and 10-hour shifts available

General Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
• Or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa. CST certification is required within 18-months of hire if working in Illinois. LPN license is required if you are a graduate of an LPN program.
• No prior experience is required.
• BLS. Mandatory Reporter.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people; ability to work under pressure and with a large degree of independence and accountability; and the ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.
• Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
