Job summary

What you’ll do:
Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Facilitates process of patient management in the surgical center.
  • Participates in making pre-op calls to patients if possible.
  • Collaborates with the front office staff on intake process as needed.
  • Assists with pre-op assessment and teaching.
  • Plans and prepares for interoperative nursing care of the patient.
  • Gathers equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
  • Able to create and maintain multiple sterile fields/observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis.
  • Functions in the role of Scrub and Circulating nurse.
  • Performs sponge, sharps and instrument counts as required.
  • Administers medications and solutions as prescribed.
  • Position and prepare patient on operating table.
  • Monitors and controls the environment. Adheres to safety standards and precautions.
  • Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in maintaining and assuring proper functioning of equipment and sterilizing procedures.
  • Performs in emergency situations.
  • Evaluates readiness for patient discharge and collaborates with the anesthesiologist in the discharge process.
  • Reports any potential or actual adverse event as appropriate.
  • Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
  • Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum two years of recent operating room nursing preferred.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and Software.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies.
  • Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette.
  • Understanding of electronic medical systems.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone).
  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties.
  • Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts.
  • Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by demonstrating empathy and tact.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude, the ability to work effectively with a diverse population, and the ability to demonstrate patience and professionalism.
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues.
  • Registered Nurse with orthopedic perioperative experience desired.
  • Current Massachusetts RN license.
  • BLS certifications required.
