Job summary

University Hospital in Newark, NJ seeks an OR Orthopedic Service Line Coordinator to ensure delivery of quality care for orthopedic surgical patients from neonate to adult. You will prepare each case, coordinate instrument and implant needs, and update preference cards.

You will train scrub technologists and RNs new to the OR and serve as liaison to health care professionals in problem solving patient care issues while maintaining knowledge of standards in practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field preferred.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required with six years CST experience.
• BLS (CPR) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare orthopedic surgical cases and coordinate instrument and implant needs.
• Update preference cards for each case.
• Meet with orthopedic surgeons to verify preference cards.
• Orient and train scrub technologists and Registered Nurses new to the OR.
• Act as liaison to healthcare professionals to resolve patient care issues.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant nursing and surgical technology standards.

Job description

Overview

The primary purpose of the OR Orthopedic Service Line Coordinator (Coordinator) is ensuring the delivery of quality patient care for orthopedic surgical patients ranging from neonate through adulthood. The Coordinator role assures accurate preparation of each orthopedic surgical case, coordinates instrument and implant needs, updates preference cards, meets with orthopedic surgeons to assure preference cards are correct. Actively participates in the orientation and training of surgical scrub technologist and Registered Nurses new to the operating room. The position acts as a liaison to all healthcare professionals in problem solving patient care issues. Must demonstrate and maintain knowledge and competency in technical skills and use expertise to raise the level of competency of the team. The Coordinator has practical knowledge of the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Practice, AORN standards of Operating Room Standards, and/or Association of Surgical Technologists Standards, The Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting, and National Patient Safety Goals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or a related healthcare field is preferred. Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting with six (6) years of CST experience required. BLS (CPR) certification is
required.
