Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health’s Winchester Hospital is seeking an OR Attendant to assist the surgical services team by preparing rooms, transporting patients and ensuring efficient turnover between procedures.

Responsibilities include cleaning rooms, handling specimens, and supporting patient comfort and safety, with EKGs and basic tests as needed. High school diploma or GED required; CNA preferred and BLS certification required.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant or nursing student with clinical rotations or equivalent education or one year clinical care experience.
• Life Support Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing rooms and transporting patients.
• Clean operating rooms between procedures and manage waste.
• Retrieve and set up equipment and supplies for procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning under supervision of nursing and surgical staff.
• Conduct EKGs, point-of-care tests as needed.
• Provide personal care and hygiene to patients.
• Support a culture of safety and maintain inventory par levels.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Working under the direction of nursing, the OR Attendant contributes to the Hospital’s mission to care, to heal, and to excel in service to our community by assisting the surgical services team in preparing rooms, transporting patients and performing other functions to optimize the efficiency of the Operating Room department. This clinical-support position has an impact on reducing patient harm by thoroughly cleaning rooms between procedures and on patient satisfaction by professionally and empathetically supporting patients as they enter the surgical environment and on minimizing turnaround times.

As part of the Patient Care Team and under the direction of nursing, this position:

• Follows the standards and practices of AORN and Infection Control within the sterile operating room environment under the guidance of the OR staff.
• Assists with positioning of patients under the direction of nursing, surgeon, and anesthesia providers.
• Thoroughly cleans operating rooms between procedures including equipment, walls, lighting and floor as needed. Collecting and disposing of medical waste, including blood, tissue and bodily fluids. Preparing rooms for the following procedure ensuring expedient turnaround time and a neat environment.
• Retrieving and signing out blood products.
• Processes and Deliverers specimens and tissue to specified areas as requested.
• Retrieves and Sets Up equipment as needed for surgical procedures.
• Crossed trained to clean and disinfect anesthesia equipment.
• Performs EKG's, blood Point of Care, and other tests and basic procedures.
• Provides personal care and hygiene to patients as needed.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment to enhance patient satisfaction and a culture of safety..
• Maintains appropriate par levels of inventory for the unit, addressing inventory issues in a timely manner, and places orders as needed. Stocks linen carts, blanket warmers, suction containers and other non-sterile supplies to ensure efficiency of the operating room area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

Required: High school diploma or G.E.D.

Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant or a nursing student with completion of two (2) clinical rotations or equivalent education or one (1) year clinical care experience.

Pay Range:

$20.00 - $26.92

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
