Job summary

Midlothian Optometric Center is seeking an Optometry Technician/Admin Assistant to conduct vision tests, assist with patient procedures, and manage administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will have over 2 years of experience in an optometry setting and be proficient with ophthalmic equipment.

Qualifications

  • Experience with medical billing and insurance processing preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPT codes and insurance claim procedures a plus.
  • HIPAA compliance knowledge and medical privacy requirements essential.

  • Process insurance claims and handle billing inquiries with accuracy.

About the Role
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct preliminary vision tests and take detailed patient histories
  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures with precision and attention to detail
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist the optometrist during procedures
  • Provide patient education and explain patient options with clarity and compassion
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic health records
  • Assist in optometric procedures and provide post care instructions
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Process insurance claims and handle billing inquiries with accuracy and professionalism
  • Manage patient insurance verification and authorization processes
  • Handle accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balancesCoordinate benefits and communicate coverage details to patients
  • Maintain organized filing systems and ensure compliance with documentation requirements
  • Support front office operations and assist with scheduling as needed
  • Provide administrative support to clinical staff and practice management
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Stay current with the latest developments in ophthalmic technology and procedures
  • Stay informed about insurance industry changes and billing regulations
Optometry Technician/Admin Assistant Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting
  • Basic understanding of ocular anatomy and common eye conditions
  • Proficiency with ophthalmic equipment and testing procedures
  • Experience with electronic health records systems
  • Experience with medical billing and insurance processing preferred
  • Knowledge of CPT codes and insurance claim procedures a plus
  • Strong attention to detail for billing accuracy and compliance
  • Excellent patient care and communication skills
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and medical privacy requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced medical environment
  • Valid certification in CPR
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is a plus
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
