Job summary

Adventure Dental, Vision, & Orthodontics in Albuquerque, NM is seeking an Optometric Assistant to administer visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment, and help with eyewear fittings. This role reports to the Lead Optometric Assistant and supports the team in delivering high-quality eye care to underserved children.

The position involves pre-testing, patient communication, and assisting optometrists during exams, with a focus on accuracy and patient comfort in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a vision practice is a plus.
• Ability to tech, scribe, and perform optometric tasks.
• Strong communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency in EHR systems is required.
• Ability to train and lead a team of Optometric Assistants.

Responsibilities

• Understand, monitor, and ensure the smooth execution of office processes including coding and materials, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation.
• Call patients regarding appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no-shows, and recalls.
• Support optometrists during eye exams by preparing patients, performing initial pre-tests, and recording results.
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test and assist with scribing and finding a good fit for glasses.
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, and other assessments; administer dilation drops.
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions; process payments during check-in/out.
• Maintain a clean, welcoming office environment including restrooms and lobby area.
• Participate in other duties supporting high-quality, compassionate care.
