Summary

The Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant is primarily responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience by preparing patients for onsite and/or remote examinations, conducting pre-exam diagnostic tests, and explaining each step of the process. The Clinical Specialist acts as a liaison between patients and Optometrists and participates in the initial stages of the patient journey.

Pay Class: Full Time

Pay Rate: $18.00 to $27.00 per hour

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Completing patient registration, collecting and submitting pertinent medical and ocular health information into EMR.
  2. Assisting onsite doctors with patient care and eye examinations, explaining preliminary testing processes, administering tests, and documenting results.
  3. Supporting remote appointments by guiding patients through remote eye exams, including pre-testing, specialty testing, initiating video conferencing, and assisting with additional testing.
  4. Transitioning patients to retail associates after exams, conveying doctor recommendations.
  5. Understanding MVC plans and explaining benefits to patients.
  6. Preauthorizing insurance according to SOPs.
  7. Scheduling appointments, managing exam books, and handling no-shows and cancellations.
  8. Maintaining patient flow and answering clinical questions.
  9. Keeping accurate patient records and instructing on contact lens care and handling.
  10. Ordering and stocking diagnostic contact lenses, and notifying patients when ready for dispensing.
  11. Maintaining a clean environment and participating in training and certification.
  12. Working flexible schedules and traveling as needed.
Education/Experience

At least 1 year of related experience; optical or healthcare background preferred; high school diploma, GED, or equivalent; training provided.
