FTS International, LLC in Chantilly, VA seeks an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to provide technical expertise for development, integration, and sustainment of advanced space-based optical payloads and telescope systems.

You will mature telescope technologies, coordinate multi-vendor interfaces, and act as a liaison between government stakeholders and industry partners. The role requires a TS/SCI with polygraph and a strong systems engineering background.

Qualifications

• TS/SCI with polygraph is required.
• BS STEM in engineering discipline is required.
• 9+ years of experience in optical systems, telescope development, or related fields.
• Experience with optical payloads, telescope systems, and space-based imaging.
• Knowledge of systems engineering, interface management, and integration.
• Experience supporting technical reviews and cross-organization coordination.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across diverse engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Support maturation of telescope technologies and cross-vendor interfaces.
• Transfer knowledge on optical systems and opto-mechanical architectures.
• Serve as liaison between government stakeholders and vendors.
• Coordinate telescope interface requirements across multiple vendors.
• Evaluate interface recommendations and design feedback to reduce NRE costs.
• Maintain telescope interface definitions, standards, and baselines.
• Participate in design reviews and engineering assessments.
• Support integration planning for telescope assemblies and spacecraft interfaces.
• Identify opportunities for modular designs and standardized interfaces.
• Assess emerging optical technologies and transition opportunities.
• Coordinate activities among vendors, government teams, and engineering groups.
• Support risk assessments, trade studies, and analyses for telescope integration.
• Develop technical documentation and executive-level briefings.
