Job summary

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of related experience or equivalent.
• Experience with optomechanical systems and precision structures.
• Strong understanding of optical mounts, tolerancing, and alignment techniques.
• Familiarity with CAD models for use in FEA for thermal and structural analysis.
• Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) and DFMEA methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design the packaging for complex subsystems with optical, photonic, optoelectronic, electrical, and mechanical elements for R&D and production programs for U.S. government customers.
• Own mechanical designs from concept through flight qualification, including requirements definition and trade studies.
• Collaborate with optical engineers to translate optical prescriptions into robust mechanical designs.
• Design optical mounts and systems for launch loads, vibration, and vacuum environments.
• Develop optical alignment strategies and data packages; manage 3rd party vendors as needed.
• Support integration, alignment, and test activities including environmental testing.
