Job summary

Atom Computing is seeking an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to design opto-mechanical subsystems and assist with fixturing, assembly, alignment, test, and integration. Responsibilities include designing mechanisms for laser distribution, high-NA imaging, and optical cavities, and coordinating with physicists on vacuum systems.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 3–5+ years in opto‑mechanical design, and hands-on optics experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree a plus).
• 3–5+ years opto‑mechanical design experience.
• Hands-on optics and opto‑mechanical practices.
• Experience with Solidworks, PDM, and data management.
• Experience with FEA and first-order analysis.
• Understanding of materials for optical adhesives.
• DFMA, tolerancing to ASME Y14.5M and ISO 10110.
• Knowledge of first-order optics and aberration theory.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanics for optical subsystems including laser distribution and imaging.
• Design vacuum chambers and mechanical coupling to optical systems.
• Balance competing requirements through analysis.
• Create designs from component to system level.
• Perform stability, thermal, and tolerance analyses.
• Assist in hands‑on assembly, alignment, and integration.
