Job summary

Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health is seeking an Optician for a part-time schedule. The role supports the Optical Department, assists patients with their eyewear needs, and travels to Land O' Lakes and Tampa to serve multiple locations.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance, assisting with frame selection, processing orders, pricing, and training on lenses and contact lens insertion. The position requires an Optician’s License and strong communication skills, with opportunities for

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients professionally and manage inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain authorizations as needed.
  • Assist patients with frame selection and demonstrate product knowledge.
  • Price orders and assist with lens/eyewear fitting and adjustments.
  • Process and post charges using Intergy; manage payments and daily journal.
  • Order frames, lenses, and contact lenses; train on insertion/removal of contacts.

Office Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00-5:00 Friday -8:00-1:00

Location: This position travels to Land O' Lakes & Tampa.

Position Summary: Assists patients in the Optical Department with their optical need.

Essential Functions.
  • Performs preliminary duties Greets patients professionally, cheerfully, and in a timely manner
  • Verifies patient’s insurance coverage
  • Obtains authorizations Pulls previous files
  • Updates patient demographics as needed
  • Verifies HIPAA and Privacy signatures are obtained
  • Answers phone promptly and professionally
  • Makes appointments for lens technician and I&R training
  • Takes messages and follows through
  • Handles customer needs and requests efficiently
  • Promptly and cheerfully assists patients with frame selection
  • Demonstrates product knowledge
  • Shows ability in prescription analysis, and guides patient to the products and materials most suitable for their prescription
  • Accurately prices orders Shows skill in the adjusting and fitting of eye wear.
  • Problem solves in resolving patient issues with eye wear.
  • Performs Insertion/Removal training for contact lens wearers
  • Orders frames, lenses and contact lenses
  • Intergy - Accurately posts charges
  • Collects monies and posts payments Balances journal and locks it each day
  • Creates a journal for the next day
  • Secures deposit at the end of the day Logs off Intergy and out of computer before leaving
Other Related Functions
  • Maintains an organized and clean work area
  • Empties HIPAA container into destruction bin
  • Restocks frames at end of day
  • Dusts frame shelves monthly
  • Keeps up with filing on a daily basis
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Education/Training
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification
  • Optician’s License
