Job description

At Community Eye Care Specialists, our mission is to provide patients with the highest level of quality care and to treat them like family. We serve Northern PA and Southern NY with location in Warren, Dunkirk, Olean, Seneca, and Jamestown.

The Optician must work with a diverse customer base—including pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients—delivering quality optical care and outstanding customer service to establish loyalty. The Optician will assist patients with eyeglass ordering, fittings, and with strong sales skills to recommend products and accessories that meet the patient’s needs.

Pay Range: $17.50 – $18.00/hr. Commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists.
  • Communicate with physicians regarding prescription questions or concerns.
  • Inspect lenses to detect flaws, verify prescriptions, progressive measurements, and lens enhancements and coatings.
  • Measure bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers with measuring devices.
  • Mount and secure lenses for cutting, polishing, and grinding.
  • Assist in selecting frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and prescription.
  • Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, enhancements, and frames to suit patient needs.
  • Verify finished lenses are ground to specification.
  • Create work orders for lab technicians to ensure correct lens delivery.
  • Set up machines for polishing, beveling, edging, or grinding lenses.
  • Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames for proper fitting.
  • Shape lenses for insertion into frames.
  • Repair broken or damaged frames.
  • Educate patients on proper wear, care of eyeglasses, and contact lenses.
  • Determine current lens prescriptions using lensometers or analyzers and mark progressives correctly.
  • Track orders, prescriptions, and inventory.
  • Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise.
  • Attend scheduled training workshops and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of eye care experience, ABO Certified.
  • Minimum Associate’s degree or equivalent and on‑the‑job training or post‑secondary education.
  • Strong computer knowledge with a minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute; ability to navigate multiple applications.
