Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Active BLS certification preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of retail optician experience.
• Bilingual preferred (Russian, Spanish, Farsi/Dari).

Responsibilities

• Provide education on lens materials, products and designs.
• Interpret and transpose prescriptions to ensure accuracy.
• Advise patients on proper eyewear frame selection and fit.
• Design eyewear by combining frame design, lens materials and lifestyle needs.
• Perform eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs with proper alignment.
• Measure lens power, PD, multifocal height, base curve, vertex distance and prism power.
• Order custom lenses from labs and assist with billing and insurance when needed.
• Verify prescriptions for ordered lenses and check for accuracy.
• Maintain product displays and monitor inventory levels.

What You'll Do

The Optician will sell eyeglasses and contacts according to written optical prescriptions. The Optician will recommend appropriate lens materials and designs based on patient needs and preferences. They will advise patients on proper frame design, fit and performance.

Compensation Disclosure: $25.00 - $30.00

The compensation range listed reflects Elica’s good‑faith estimate of the anticipated hiring range for this position in accordance with California pay transparency requirements. Final compensation will be determined based on job‑related factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and qualification.

Requirements

The Successful Candidate Will Be Willing And Able To

• Provide patient education regarding lens materials, products and designs.
• Perform prescription analysis such as interpreting and transposing.
• Provide recommendations to patients regarding proper eyeglass frame selection.
• Design complete eyewear product by incorporating frame design elements, lens materials and optics with patient’s prescription and lifestyle requirements.
• Perform eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs. Includes proper alignment of frame, comfortable fit, functional vision and instructions on proper wear and care of eyeglasses.
• Perform accurate measurements of lens power, pupillary distance, multifocal segment height, lens base curve, vertex distance, and prism power.
• Order custom lens products from wholesale optical laboratories, monitor process, post charges and bill insurance when needed.
• Verify lens prescriptions of ordered lenses and check for accuracy.
• Assist in wholesale purchasing of frames and other products for resale to patients.
• Assist in the return of authorized merchandise to manufacturers and prepare credit forms.
• Design, arrange and maintain product displays.
• Organize and maintain frame display area throughout the workday.
• Monitor product inventory levels.
• Maintain inventory of office supplies and other materials necessary to properly run the department.
• Maintain instruments and hand tools used in the office.
• Maintain job knowledge by attending work training as needed and assigned.
• Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Has

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Active BLS Certification
• Minimum 1 year of retail optician experience required.
• Bilingual strongly preferred (especially in Russian, Spanish, Farsi/Dari)
• Insurance verification experience preferred.
• Understand and maintain HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality

Essential Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of the laws and standards governing the ophthalmic field.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and vision insurance plans preferred.
• Strong customer service skills to deliver services in a culturally sensitive manner for our non‑English speaking patients.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers and doctors.
• Understanding of the anatomy of the eye as well as normal, abnormal vision and perception.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Intermediate computer literacy required.

Physical Requirements And Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of the healthcare facility environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or lift. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderately loud; incumbent must be able to focus in an environment with many distractions.

Additional Requirements

• Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours.
