Job summary

OSF HealthCare seeks an Optician to design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames per prescription, and to prepare lab orders for grinding and mounting. The role also assists patients in frame selection and contact lens handling.

The incumbent will ensure accuracy of finished lenses and provide guidance on lens options, while maintaining excellent patient interactions and high standards of service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years' optician experience required.
• ABO certification within 2 years of hire.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; detail oriented.
• Proficiency with Microsoft software.

Responsibilities

• Design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames per prescription/specification.
• Prepare work order for optical laboratory with grinding/mounting instructions.
• Verify exactness of finished lens spectacles.
• Assist patients with selecting frames and inserting/removing contact lenses.

Expected pay for this position is $21.93 - $25.80/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Optician will work collaboratively with patients to design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for their needs according to written optical prescription or specification. Will prepare work order for optical laboratory containing instructions for grinding and mounting lenses in frames and verify the exactness of finished lens spectacles. The optician will assist patients with selecting frames and/or inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma/ GED

Experience: 3 years' experience as an optician

Licensure/ Certification: Obtain American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Optician certification within 2 years of hire date

Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. Able to facilitate groups, address conflict, establish partnerships, provide consultations to stakeholder, managers, director, and administrator. Ability to be self-directed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing
