Job summary

Lumicity is seeking an Optical Test & Validation Engineer in San Francisco to validate and characterize high‑speed optical products and develop automated test solutions. You will troubleshoot complex system issues and ensure performance, reliability and quality throughout the product lifecycle.

Ideal candidates bring 2–5+ years in optical testing, strong Python skills, and hands‑on experience with 400G/800G modules, fiber optics, and Ethernet protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Electrical/Optical Engineering or Physics).
• 2–5+ years in optical test, validation, qualification, or product engineering.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic communications and transceiver tech.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation, control and data analysis.
• Experience with optical test equipment (power meters, scopes, BER testers, OSAs, traffic generators).
• Hands‑on with high‑speed optical modules (400G/800G).
• Knowledge of Ethernet basics and Layer 2/3 protocols.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills; good communicator.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Optical Test & Validation Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is responsible for validating and characterizing high-speed optical products, developing automated test solutions, troubleshooting complex system issues, and ensuring products meet performance, reliability, and quality requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• 2-5+ years of experience in optical test, validation, qualification, or product engineering.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic communication systems and optical transceiver technologies.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation, instrument control, and data analysis.
• Experience working with optical test and measurement equipment such as optical power meters, oscilloscopes, BER testers, optical spectrum analyzers, and traffic generators.
• Hands‑on experience with high‑speed optical modules, including 400G, 800G, or next‑generation optical networking technologies.
• Knowledge of Ethernet networking fundamentals, Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols, and traffic generation tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex hardware and system-level issues.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical findings to both engineering and leadership teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with reliability testing, environmental qualification, and thermal characterization.
• Familiarity with optical module standards and industry compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting manufacturing test, product qualification, or production ramp activities.
• Background working in data center, telecommunications, networking, or optical communications environments.
