Job summary

Areté in Niwot, CO is seeking an Optical Systems Engineer to design and build solid-state, semiconductor, fiber laser, and optical systems. You will model and simulate performance, plan measurements, gather data, analyze results, and advance laser and electro-optical technology through R&D.

The role requires hands-on hardware experience, DoD-funded project background, and ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Proficient theoretical understanding of laser physics, optics, and design approaches.
• Demonstrated capability in hardware build and test.
• Experience in execution of DoD-funded research and development programs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in MATLAB, Python, or similar computing language.

Responsibilities

• Drive laser and sensor program research & development.
• Prepare models, simulations, and calculations of system performance.
• Develop optical system specifications and design documentation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to support builds.
